SWAY
A simple hanging shelf meant to utilize the forgotten space, the ceiling, that is adjustable according to the height of the room and your requirements
Furniture for forgotten spaces #FFFS is an exploration into the unfamiliar spaces that we encounter daily.
This furniture was conceived during a 2-week workshop facilitated by esteemed Staffan Holm, #FFFS sets to challenge and define new technology in furniture design. This project was done with a partner

Insights
This design project was to be made with the classic Scandinavian design language in mind.
On deconstructing what a forgotten space is, our research suggested that the upper half of the wall as well as the ceiling are usually not used.
When Nordic interiors are kept in-mind it was seen that the ceiling was usually quite high.
We wanted to focus on were the clean lines, intricate joinery and less is more

Technical aspects
Sway was inspired by the concept of a swing, where three shelves hung from the ceiling and are put together with strong 5mm leather cords, with a brass rod in the bottom to keep the stability of the shelf and to keep the cords straight.
The use of the cords were to give the adjustable factor to the design. When the cords are released from the tension the height of the shelf can be adjusted accordingly.
The part holding the shelves together was made with a small grid line which is seamless from far but keeps the shelves stable. The brass Rod put at the bottom acts as both weights as well as a hanger. The chamfered side gives the shelf a sleek look providing the image of a thin slice of wood holding it together

A great opportunity was given to us by Lasalle to display at the prestigious
Stockholm furniture fair, 2019 at the greenhouse exhibit.
